Félix Pisani

Félix Pisani ( born April 28, 1831 in Constantine Opel, † November 7, 1920 in Paris) was a French scientist, chemist, mineralogist and mineral dealers.

Life

Félix Pisani was born on April 28, 1831 in Constantine Opel as the son of a product originating in Venice diplomat who served as Russia's representative there. Early on, he felt attracted to chemistry, possibly due to its maternal lineage: his grandfather Félix de Serres was a professor of chemistry at the University of Clermont -Ferrand. 1854 Félix Pisani was taken on the recommendation of his grandfather at the School of Chemistry by Charles Frédéric Gerhardt in Paris, where he was quickly becoming one of the favorite pupil Gerhardt. The laboratory was led to the appointment of Gerhardt to Strasbourg in 1855 by Emil Kopp until Pisani eventually took over the management of the Institute.

At the same time Pisani opened his first minerals store on the Rue de l' Ancienne Comédie in Paris, only a short time later along with the mineralogist and dealer Louis sower and the geologist and botanist Emile Goubert in the Rue de Mézières the trading house of Comptoir de géologique et botanique to establish that he made alone later. From this period documents in the British Museum, occupying the sale of minerals by Pisani to the museum in 1869. He expanded his activities to include paleontology, and sold in 1891 an important, provided by the French paleontologist M. Baron and Maurice Cossmann with explanations collection to the Museum Martorell in Barcelona.

Pisani finally moved to the Rue de Furstenberg, where he not only lived, but also had his laboratory. He was there chemistry classes and private lessons, and where he ran his business with geoscientific collectibles. Over time, his laboratory became the focal point of many mineralogists. This rush caused him to 1878 to set up along with other mineralogists Société mineralogique de France.

Pisani was a member of the Société de Belgique Géologique. Among other things, the chemist Roberto Duarte Silva (1837-1889) was one of his students.

Pisani as a mineralogist

Pisani works on the chemistry of the minerals come from the period between 1854 and 1915. His most important work was the treatise Traité de Élémentaire mineralogy of 1875, the 1883 revised and supplemented. In addition, he wrote numerous other works, including the treatise Traité pratique d'analyze et Chimique qualitative, quantitative, which was published in 1900 by Verlag F. Alcan.

He owes the mineralogy numerous mineral descriptions, including those of the Kalicinit in 1865, which was first described as a new mineral species from Kalicine Chypis ( Chippis ) in the Valais. " Located in the beautiful collection of Mr. Adam, under the name of potash. " It is a bicarbonate, which crystallizes in the orthorhombic system. The mineral Pisanit described by Gustav Adolf Kenngott 1860 was dedicated to him, it turned out to be a variety of the copper-containing Melanterits.
