Felsenau power plant

The power plant Felsenaustrasse is a river power station on the river Aare in the Swiss capital Bern. It is located in the northern district Felsenaustrasse, near the brewery Felsenaustrasse, and is operated by Energie Wasser Bern. The power plant has a gradient of 10-14 m. Its capacity is 11,500 kW, which allows a supply of about 7,500 households.

The useful water of 100 m³ / s flows from the dam Engehalde by a 550 m long tunnel to the power station Felsenaustrasse, while the remaining water flows around the narrow peninsula in a predominantly natural running, 9 km long river bed. The dam is equipped with a 1998 put into operation Dotierkraftwerk (residual water power plant), which makes use of the prescribed residual flow of 12 m³ / s. Its output is 460 kW ( supply of nearly 700 households ), its slope is 3.6 m.

During commissioning of the power plant on November 6, 1909 by the electricity plant in the city of Bern, the power plant had three Francis turbines, which generated a total output of 2,600 kW. 1918, the power plant by another two Francis turbines has been extended to 1989, all five turbines were replaced by a Kaplan bulb turbine with a total remodeling.
