FEMSA

Fomento Económico Mexicano ( Mexican Economic Development for Spanish; completely Fomento Económico Mexicano Sociedad Anonima, abbreviated FEMSA ) is a Mexican company with headquarters in Monterrey. FEMSA is listed on the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores in Índice de Precios y Cotizaciones (IPC).

The Company is the largest beverage company in Mexico and throughout Latin America.

History

FEMSA was established in 1890 with the founding principle of the Cuauhtémoc Brewery in Monterrey, the oldest beer brand Carta Blanca is still produced today. 1936 Valores Industriales was S. A. (VISA ) was founded as a holding company for all Group activities. In 1988, a restructuring of the group: FEMSA now bundled activities in the areas of soft drinks, beer, packaging and retail. Since 1998, shares of FEMSA on the New York Stock Exchange are traded.

In 1969 was built on the 34 acre site of a former hacienda in Toluca a new brewery. In 1970 the construction of a brewery in Guadalajara, in the production of the previously acquired Cerveceria Occidental was relocated. 1991, a brewery was founded in Sonora.

Over the years, the beer business of the company grew through numerous acquisitions - 1929 he was urged by the acquisition of Cerveceria Central in Mexico City at an early stage in the " enclosure " of today's main competitors Modelo 1945 was the acquisition of Cerveceria Nogales, Veracruz, yielding an early stage penetrated into the territory of the resident in Orizaba Moctezuma brewery. 1954, the breweries Compañia Cervecera de Tecate, SA taken in Tecate and the Cerveceria de Humaya in Sinaloa. FEMSA now consists of three divisions.

Coca -Cola FEMSA

With 35 plants, 78,900 employees and a volume of 2.5 billion unit cases (equivalent to approximately 14.2 billion liters ), Coca -Cola FEMSA, the world's largest bottler of beverages of The Coca -Cola Company. A total of 100 beverage brands ( including various Coca -Cola varieties, Sprite, Fanta, Fresca, Lift, Delaware Punch, Mundet, Extra Poma, Senzao, Beat, Etiqueta Azul, Power Ade, Te Nestea, Adventures and Ciel ) are in nine countries Latin America and sold in the Philippines.

Coca -Cola FEMSA is among 28.7% of Coca -Cola Company and has a turnover of 124.715 billion pesos in fiscal year 2008, the largest division of FEMSA.

FEMSA Comercio

FEMSA Comercio operates OXXO, Mexico's largest chain of convenience stores with 9561 shops. OXXO sold about 13 % of FEMSA Cerveza former beer production and is also the most important distribution channel of Coca- Cola products in Mexico.

FEMSA Cerveza had 2008 sales of 47.15 billion pesos.

FEMSA Cerveza By 2010, operating six breweries in Mexico and eight in Brazil with a total of 35 brands of beer. FEMSA Cerveza also produced glass bottles, beverage cans and bottle caps.

The key produced by FEMSA beer brands were:

  • Bohemia: brewed since 1905.
  • Carta Blanca: the first beer brand, which was founded in Monterrey in 1890 Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma has brewed. The beer was awarded in 1893 at the World Exhibition in Chicago with the gold medal.

  • Tecate: was brought in 1944 by the Compañía Cervecera de Tecate on the market and on the market since its acquisition of Cuauhtémoc and FEMSA.

11 January 2009 Heineken announced its intention to acquire the beer business of FEMSA. The initiated by FEMSA acquisition had handled a value of 5.6 billion euros and was as a stock exchange.
