Fender Jaguar

The Jaguar is an electric guitar. It is made by the U.S. maker of musical instruments Fender since 1962.

History

The model came in 1962 as a successor to the Fender Jazzmaster on the market, which came out the end of the 1950s. With a shortened neck and " lots of chrome " (quote Leo Fender ) it should be the new top model. The competition from the electric guitar models Fender Stratocaster and Fender Telecaster but it was no match. Lack success was a Fender production in 1975. In 1999, with the " 1962 Reissue Jaguar " resumed production. Even Jaguar models are available from the Fender Squier daughter now.

Construction

The Jaguar follows as before, the jazz master the basic design principle of the Fender company: At a massive body made of alder or ash wood, a neck made of maple wood is screwed. Unlike the Jazzmaster has the Jaguar 22 frets, ( Jazz Masters 21 ) and a short scale length of 24 inches. The tuning machines are located in a line on the upper side of the asymmetrical headstock. The electronics are mounted on a mostly made of plastic pickguard, which is located under the strings on the body.

The electrical system of the Jaguar consists of two built only when the jaguar and the Cyclone II single coil pickups. Although visually similar to the Stratocaster pickups represent the pickups custom machined and a Gibson Les Paul produce a higher power and a warmer sound, similar to that.

The Jaguar was probably the first electric guitar, the standard out-of- phase circuits enabled (Note: The anti-phase switching two pickups gives a poor bass, brilliant to sharp sound, see below: " surf music "). Each of the two three-way pickup slide switch provides settings for this positive, Off, Negative.

The Jaguar and Jazzmaster have floating bridge bridge systems with lots of overtones, see also Third - bridge guitar.

The Jaguar in music

The Jaguar was popular at the beginning of production in the 1960s, especially in surf music bands like the Beach Boys.

After the waning of the surf wave and the cessation of production the guitar in the late 1980s and early 1990s had fallen sharply in price. Used models were available for 100 to 200 U.S. dollars. This was an incentive for young aspiring punk and grunge bands to add itself Guitar Type Jaguar. Pioneer of this trend have included Kurt Cobain and the band Sonic Youth. In the music video for Under the Bridge by the Red Hot Chili Peppers you can see how the intro is played on a Jaguar. Because of this new popularity called Fender 1999 " 1962 Reissue Jaguar " into life. Another well-known Jaguar is Johnny Marr, guitarist of English indie rock band The Smiths. Fender was a dedicated Marr signature model of the Jaguar out.

Kurt Cobain used the jaguar as a model for his own signature guitar: On the question of how a possible " Kurt Cobain Special edition" should look like, Cobain photographed his Fender Mustang and a Jaguar, cut the two photos through in the middle, glued the top of the Jaguar at the bottom of the Mustang and presented the results with the word " So ". Logically went the guitar with the name of art Jagstang (Jaguar and Mustang ) in production.
