Fender Starcaster

The Fender Starcaster is an electric guitar model, a so-called semi-hollow body design by Gene Fields. The U.S. musical instrument manufacturer Fender first attempted in order to penetrate the market of semi-hollow guitars with twin-coil humbucking pickups. The Starcaster was produced from 1976 to 1982.

The guitar has a body with asymmetric resonant cavities, two F- holes and two Fender Wide Range humbucking pickups. The neck is not - as usual for guitars example of this approach - glued but screwed by Fender tradition to the body. The pickups are from the Telecaster Thinline series. The design of the head plate with a color-matched to the body finish, curved bottom hem was at the time of its introduction new and can be found on any other Fender guitar.

The Starcaster was - although of high quality workmanship - commercially not very successful. They did not fit the image of Fender, who stood for solidbody guitars with single-coil single-coil pickups. They, too, had been designed at the time of glam rock and also took care little for the nascent punk rock.

Star Caster models are rare, but do not cost as much as comparable models of the brands Gibson or Gretsch because of their unpopularity. In contrast to most other guitar designs of Fender there is of the star Caster been no new edition (Reissue model).

The lack of presence in this market segment could Fender offset only in 2003 with the acquisition of the production of Gretsch guitar. One of the most famous Starcaster player was until recently the radio pioneer Leo Nocentelli of The Meters. Admits became the Starcaster recently, by the Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood, which she uses in addition to his Telecaster models.

A modified reprint of the Starcaster guitar and bass is Fender Modern Player before in the series in September 2013.
