Fenioux (Charente-Maritime)

Fenioux is a West commune with 147 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the region of Poitou -Charentes in the department of Charente- Maritime.

Location

Fenioux is located about 10 km ( driving distance ) southwest of Saint -Jean- d'Angély and about 21 kilometers north of Saintes in the ancient cultural landscape of the Saintonge. The town of Cognac is located about 35 kilometers southeast.

Economy

The little village and its surroundings are dominated by agriculture to a large extent. The area around Fenioux still belongs to the wine region of Fins Bois in the wine growing region of Cognac.

History

About the history of Fenioux no information is published. The church with its quite impressive Romanesque portal and - the most impressive of its kind belonging - Dead lamp suggest, however, that the place had a certain importance in the Middle Ages.

  • On the north side of the church is the simple village fountain, which was barely however, since the beginning of the 20th century in operation since at that time all the houses were connected to the municipal water supply.
