Fenoxycarb is a so-called insect growth regulator selected from the group of the carbamates. As an analog of the juvenile hormone of insects it inhibits metamorphosis to the adult stage ( imago ) and interferes with the molting of the larvae in the early stages. Fenoxycarb is used as pesticides, wood preservatives, and insecticide. It is approved in Germany, Austria and Switzerland for use in orchards, in Austria and Switzerland in viticulture.

Fenoxycarb is for mammals only of low toxicity and is classified by the WHO as safe, but it is toxic to fish and invertebrates. The half-life in soil is 84 days under airtight it is extended to 136 days.
