Fenpropimorph is a chemical compound selected from the group of the morpholines.

Production and representation

Fenpropimorph, by reaction of diisopropanolamine with sulfuric acid, and reaction of the resulting 2,6- dimethylmorpholine with formic acid, and 3 para- tert-butylphenyl -2-methylpropanal can be obtained.

Properties

Fenpropimorph is a flammable, low volatile, colorless and odorless liquid that is practically insoluble in water. It is stable to hydrolysis and photolysis at pH values of 5, 7 and 9

Use

Fenpropimorph is used as a fungicide. It is used as wood preservatives preventive against wood and wood-destroying fungi. It inhibits the enzymes involved in cell wall structure and prevents the sterol biosynthesis. It also serves to combat powdery mildew in wheat, barley and rye, yellow and brown rust in wheat, and Rhynchosporium leaf blotch disease in winter barley. The compound was brought to market in 1983.

In the countries of the European Union, the active ingredient fenpropimorph is permitted for uses as fungicide for plant protection products since May 2009.

In Germany, Austria and Switzerland pesticides are approved with this drug.

Safety

Fenpropimorph is classified as toxic and may cause harm to the unborn child.
