Feodor I. Kozhevnikov

Fyodor Ivanovich Kozhevnikov (Russian Фёдор Иванович Кожевников; * 2 Junijul / June 15 1903greg in Smolensk, Russia, .. † 22 March 1998 in Moscow ) was a Soviet lawyer. From 1953 to 1961 he served as a judge at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

Life

Fedor Kozhevnikov studied law at the Faculty of Law of the Soviet Lomonosov Moscow State University. After graduating in 1927, he devoted himself to scientific work and teaching. First, he was a lecturer at the Graduate School of Law Moscow, and later as director of the " All-Union Fernhochschule of Law " operates. In 1930 he completed his habilitation and became a law professor at the Moscow State University, where he spent 30 years as the Chair of International Law and from 1942 to 1947 additionally held the post of Dean of the Faculty of Law. In 1960 Kozhevnikov at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations ( MGIMO ), where he took over the chairmanship of the Department of International Law. In this capacity he worked until 1982.

In addition, he was a judge of the Supreme Court of the Soviet Union and president of the legal department of the Association of Cultural Relations of the Soviet Union with foreign countries

Since the 1950s, Kozhevnikov also worked at the international level in the field of international law. He was from 1952 to 1953 Member of the International Law Commission of the United Nations and was elected in 1953 to the judge at the International Court in The Hague. He replaced in this role his compatriot Sergei Golunski from which after his election in December 1951, the Office for health reasons could not compete and had resigned in July 1953, and held the office until 1961.

Kozhevnikov was in his scientific career out around 400 journals, including a number of textbooks on international law and administrative law. In his work to international law itself Kozhevnikov dealt mainly with the history of international law and the role of Russia and the Soviet Union in the development of international law.
