Feral Tribune

Feral Tribune was a left-wing satirical political weekly newspaper from Split, published by the same publisher. She appeared since the mid- 1980s, initially as a weekend supplement of the newspaper " Slobodna Dalmacija ". In 1993, the editors of "Feral Tribune " has separated from the then -government nut leaf.

The name " Feral Tribune " is an allusion to the American, internationally recognized " International Herald Tribune ". In time of war in Croatia Split editors took a critical attitude and wrote relentlessly over rising nationalism and war crimes in their own country.

Even after the end of the conservative Tuđman era lit the newspaper social, economic and political grievances. The satirical title pages and text, as well as the critical comments made ​​the satirical newspaper, a number of lawsuits for libel and defamation. The tight financial situation threatened the existence at that time.

The court rulings triggered especially by foreign media representatives from a wide solidarity. Organizations such as Reporters Without Borders and the International Federation of Journalists drew attention to the situation of the editors, and they raised funds to establish a collecting society, which today enables a continuation of the newspaper.

The Serbian writer and recipient of the Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding Bora Cosic is today among other things, Columnist for Feral Tribune.
