Ferdinand Bie

Ferdinand Reinhardt Bie ( born February 16, 1888 in Drammen, † November 9, 1961 in Kristiansund ) was a Norwegian athlete.

At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 was Bie tenth in the long jump with 6.75 meters. In the decathlon, he gave up.

In the pentathlon points were awarded according to placement in the individual disciplines. The American Jim Thorpe won with 7 points for four first places and a third place in the javelin. Ferdinand Bie was second with 21 points. A year later Thorpe was disqualifizifiert because he had played baseball for money. Bie was, like Hugo Wieslander in the decathlon, 1913 subsequently declared an Olympic champion.

Only in 1982 was rehabilitated and declared in both disciplines posthumously Olympic champion Jim Thorpe by the IOC. Same time it was determined that the other official result will not be changed. This will both run as Olympic champion in the pentathlon in 1912 Thorpe and Bie.
