Ferdinand Gotthelf Hand

Ferdinand Gotthelf Hand (* February 15, 1786 in Plauen, † March 14, 1851 in Jena ) was a German classical scholar.

Hand, prefigured in Sorau, studied since 1803 in Leipzig by Gottfried Hermann and Friedrich August Carus and his doctorate in 1807 for a Doctor of Philosophy. 1809 was the habilitation observationum criticarum in Catulli carmina Specimen and it was founded in 1810 to Franz Passow point Professor at the Wilhelm- Ernst -Gymnasium in Weimar. In 1817 he became an associate and in the same year professor of philosophy and Greek literature, and co-director of the philological seminar in Jena. He has taught since 1818 at two weekly days, the Princesses Mary and Augusta of Saxe- Weimar -Eisenach, which he also accompanied in 1824 to one year to Saint Petersburg. In 1837 he was awarded the title Councilor and died on 14 March 1851 in Jena.

Hand was a member of Hermann's Greek society.
