Ferdinand Pfohl

Ferdinand Pfohl ( born October 12, 1862 in Elbogen, † December 16, 1949 in Hamburg- Bergedorf ) was a German music critic, writer on music and composer.

Life

Ferdinand Pfohl was one of the most prestigious German music critic and writer on music; his judgment had great weight ( Willscher in MGG 2005) and was comparable with Hanslick's position in Vienna in Germany. His music has been performed fairly frequently during his lifetime and received much acclaim.

Pfohl wrote during his Leipzig years (until October 1892) for the Royal Leipzig newspaper, the Leipziger Tageblatt and ( November 1892-December 1931 ) for the Hamburg news and the author of several standard works of music literature, on Richard Wagner and Arthur Nikisch, also he was from 1913 to 1934 co-director of Vogt's Conservatory of Music in Hamburg. As a composer he felt of late Romanticism from Wagner committed.
