Ferdinand Schmutzer
Ferdinand Schmutzer ( born May 21, 1870 in Vienna, † October 26, 1928 ) was an Austrian printmaker, photographer and portrait painter.
Life
Polluters came from a traditional Viennese family of artists. His great-grandfather Jacob Matthias Schmutzer founded the "kk Engraver - Academie " in Vienna, which soon with the " kk Academy of Fine Arts united " was merged. Like his grandfather and father Ferdinand Schmutzer dealt first with sculpture, but subsequently studied at the Vienna Academy painting. In a study in the Netherlands, the influence of Rembrandt van Rijn's sparked his interest in etching. Soon celebrated polluters with his portraits of Viennese society with great success. Prominent contemporaries such as Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein, Emperor Franz Joseph, the Vienna Philharmonic and Karl Lueger stood in his model.
Polluters exhibited his works internationally and has received several prizes and awards. A particular innovation was the use of large formats which were unknown in the art of etching until then. 1901 polluters became a member of the Vienna Secession, 1908, he was appointed as a recognized master of his art professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. In addition to the large formats, he introduced new techniques: he used new etching method and experimented with new needles. From 1922 to 1924 he was rector of the Academy before. 1928 Ferdinand died polluters 58 -year-old in Vienna in his villa in the observatory road. His daughter was the artist Susanne Peschke - polluters.
His honorary devoted grave is located on the Döblinger Cemetery (Group 42, number 9, number 8).
