Újpest FC

Szusza Ferenc Stadium (formerly known as Megyeri úti stadium or just Megyeri út ) is a football stadium in the 4th district of Budapest ( Újpest ), Hungary and serves as the home stadium of FC Újpest. The stadium has a capacity of 13,501 seats and was opened on 17 September 1922. The stadium was built by architect Alfred Hajos and renovated in 2000 /2001.

Since 2003, the stadium is named after Ferenc Szusza, a 24maligen Hungarian international, who played from 1941 until his career end of 1960 exclusively for Újpest FC.

History

After only a year of construction, the stadium was opened on 17 September 1922, the game Újpest against Ferencvaros. The game ended 2-1. From June 1925 to June 1929 the playing field was surrounded by a velodrome, which made the stadium at a velodrome. Since this path took several parts of the grandstand, the capacity of the stadium was reduced to 15,000.

When, after a flood in 1945 the grandstand was destroyed, it was renovated in 1946, the stadium at the Megyeri út and built it the largest stadium in Hungary with a capacity of 45 117 seats out. The stadium underwent its first international match in 1948 when Hungary defeated Romania 9-0. The main events of the 2nd World Festival of Youth and Students in 1949 were also held in this stadium. Mid-50s, the capacity of the stadium was reduced to 32,000 seats for the installation of a tartan track. The floodlight system was built in April 1968, thus also the final against Newcastle United could be discharged in Fairs Cup in 1968/69 here. By the year 2000, changed nothing except for the renovation of the floodlights. Between 2000 and 2001, the stadium was completely renewed. It was completely covered and exclusively equipped with seats. The capacity is now 13,501 seats. In 2003 the stadium was renamed to the Megyeri út in Szusza Ferenc Stadium.

By 2006, in Szusza Ferenc Stadium 25 international matches were played. Between 1948 and 1953, the place to " home ground " of the national team was. After the renovation in 2001, several games of the Hungarian selection were held here also. Hungary was for 58 years from 1948 to 2006 in Szusza Ferenc Stadium undefeated. This series ended on 2 September 2006, a defeat (1:4) in the European Championship qualifier against Norway.
