Ferkessedougou ( colloquially Piglet ) is equipped with 77590 inhabitants, the second largest city in the north of Ivory Coast and the administrative center of the department of the same name within the administrative region Savanes.

The city is an important trading center on the link road to the border crossings to Burkina Faso and Mali. It is located at the intersection of state highways A3 and A12 and has a station on the railway from Abidjan to Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso. The administrative capital Korhogo is 53 km west of the city. Approx. 90 km east begins the National Park Comoé.

The economy of the Department Ferkessedougou is mainly characterized by agriculture. Particularly cotton and sugarcane are grown on the plantations of the environment. The processing of these agricultural products is done in Ferkessedougou.
