Ferlo Desert

The Ferlo (also Fouta Ferlo ) is a desert in the West African nation of Senegal.

Located south of the Senegal basin located 70,000 km ² area in the north of Senegal is part of the Sahel. With sparse vegetation, it does not cover less than a third of the total area of Senegal. The area takes its name from the eponymous river Ferlo. In the winter, so in the dry season, the length of its river bed goes back to half its around 500 kilometers. There are endless plains, sand dunes, to find scattered rocks and small valleys with loamy soil in which form small water bodies. An agricultural product is for example the arabic gum. The annual rainfall of thorn bush savannah is given as 300 mm. Linguère, with 13,000 inhabitants, is the largest town in this region.
