Fermignano

Fermignano is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 8624 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Pesaro and Urbino in the Marche region. The community is located about 4.5 kilometers south of Urbino and about 33 kilometers south-west of Pesaro on Metaurus. Fermignano belongs to the Comunità montana Alto e Medio Metaurus.

History

The founding Fermignanos to go back to a settlement by the Roman legion commander Firmidio 200 BC, who called the settlement Firmidianus. From the year 207 BC, which takes place on Metaurus battle between the Carthaginians under Hasdrubal and the Romans under the consuls Gaius Claudius Nero and Salinator is known, from which the Romans emerged victorious. The exact location is still unknown, however. Receive is still a bridge over the Metaurus from the Roman period.

In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance Fermignano was part of the Duchy of Urbino. Until 1631 the entire Duchy was rising in the Papal States.

Fermignano is located on the only provincial road (SP 4) developed European Route 78 Rail routes to Urbino ( Fano ) and after Pergola ( continue to Fabriano are now shut down since 1944 and 1987 respectively.
