Fernand Franck

Fernand Franck ( born May 6, 1934 in Esch- Alzette, Canton Esch, Luxembourg ) is Emeritus Archbishop of Luxembourg.

Life

Fernand Franck was the only child of Mr and Mrs Jean Franck, head of the police hut at the Arbed, and Catherine Kaster. After his military service in Bitburg, chapels and Luxembourg in 1954, he entered into the Luxembourg seminary and moved in 1959 to the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster. On June 29, 1960 Fernand Franck received in Münster ( Westphalia ) the priesthood and was a chaplain in Differdange - Fousbann to 1971 and priest in Clausen 1971-1977. Moreover, he was the Director of the Catholic Children Action 1969 to 1977, Director of the Pontifical Missionary Childhood plant in Luxembourg from 1969 to 1977 and National Director of the Pontifical Mission work in Luxembourg 1973 until 1977.

In 1977 he was called to Rome and was Secretary General of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith and in 1988 also secretary of the Pontifical Society of St. Peter. He was also Konsultator of the Pontifical Council "Cor Unum ", Konsultator of the Pontifical Council of Social Communications and a member of the " Fondation Pie XII ".

Pope John Paul II appointed Fernand Franck on 21 December 1990 as Archbishop of Luxembourg. He received his episcopal consecration Archbishop Jean Hengen on February 2, 1991 at the Cathedral in Luxembourg; Co-consecrators were Curia Archbishop José Tomás Sánchez and Bishop of Trier, Hermann Josef Spital. His motto is Ut Unum Sint ( "That they may be one ").

He is since 1981 Ecclesiastical Assistant of the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to the Holy See. Fernand Franck is a member of the Episcopal Commission Ecclesia celebrans and president of the Kaiser -Karl- League prayer for the peace of nations.

He is since 1994 the first Grand Prior of the Luxembourg Lieutenancy of the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem. In 2011 he was appointed the first Grand Cross Knight of the Lieutenancy Luxembourg.

Honors and Awards

In 1977 he was appointed Honorary Prelate of the Pope ( " Monsignor "). Since 1990 he is honorary canon of Our Lady of Luxembourg Cathedral. In addition, he was honored as an Officer of the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and officer in the Order of the Oak Crown (1977 ), Knight of the French Legion of Honour (1977 ), Lion d' Echternach ( 1993), " D' Sëlwer Plack Dicks Rodange -Lentz " the " Actioun Luxembourgish " Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (1997). On 29 June 2011 he was appointed with rare appreciation for Ehrendomkapitular at Trier Cathedral.
