Fernando Afonso of Portugal

Fra ' Alfonse de Portugal ( German: Alfonso of Portugal, Portuguese Afonso de Portugal, Latin: Alphonsus Lusitanus or Aufonsus de Portugal) ( * 1135, † March 15, 1207 in Santarem ) was from 1203 to 1206, the twelfth Grand Master of the Hospitaller Order.

He was an illegitimate son of King Alfonso I of Portugal and Flamula Gomez Trava.

He leaned from the participation in the Fourth Crusade against the Christian city of Constantinople Opel. Because of his leadership style, it came in the Order to internal dissensions. Because of this, he finally resigned and sailed back to Portugal, where he died in 1207.
