Fernando de Fuentes

Fernando de Fuentes ( born December 13, 1894 in Vera Cruz, † July 4, 1958 in Mexico City) was a Mexican film director, film producer and screenwriter. He was one of the first Mexican directors who turned talkies. After a few melodramas he turned his attention increasingly to the subject of the Mexican Revolution. With El compadre Mendoza in 1933 and Allá en el Rancho Grande from 1936 turned Fernando de Fuentes two films which are regarded as masterpieces of the early Mexican cinema. With the latter, he founded the genre of Comedia ranchera.

Life and work

Fernando de Fuentes began his career as an editor and assistant director in the 1920s. In 1932 he made his first film, El anónimo. He was the first Mexican who got the opportunity to make a film for the Compañia Nacional de Peliculas Productora.
