Fernando Filoni received on 3 July 1970, the sacrament of Holy Orders and a doctorate in philosophy and canon law. In 1982 he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and got on 9 October of the same year by Pope John Paul II the honorary title of chaplain of His Holiness bestowed ( Monsignor ). At first he did in the Apostolic Nunciature of Sri Lanka (1982-1983) and Iran (1983-1985) service.
