Néstor Fernando Muslera Micol ( born June 16, 1986, Buenos Aires ) is an Uruguayan football goalkeeper. He is currently under contract with Galatasaray.

Club career

Fernando Muslera was born as the son of Hugo and the waiter housewife Norma Muslera. Together with his parents and his sister Carolina, he grew up to the age of 16 in the Barrio Lavalleja, then the family moved to Barrio Prado. At the age of four years, Fernando began playing football at the club Ferrocarril Oeste, later he moved to Royal before he finally joined Cosmos. Up to the age of eight, he played as a center forward. The age of twelve he moved to the Wanderers, where he also began his professional career. On 12 January 2007, he moved for a year on loan at Nacional Montevideo. A rental fee was not paid. In the summer of 2007 several European top clubs were aware of the talented goalkeeper. The Italian Champions League hopefuls SS Lazio finally secured his services for three million euros. Muslera came as a replacement for Angelo Peruzzi, who had ended his career in the summer.

His debut in Serie A he gave on September 16, 2007, in the 2-2 draw against Cagliari Calcio. In his first season in Italy, but he was for errors in the match against Inter Milan (1:5) only substitute the oldest player in the league, Marco Ballotta. After the end of his contract in the summer of 2008, he was then allowed to prevail as a goalkeeper.

On July 19, 2011 it was officially announced that Muslera goes to Turkey to Galatasaray. He signed a five year contract there. On April 8, 2012, the final day of the season, he scored a penalty in the 83rd minute against Manisaspor his first league game goal for Galatasaray.

National

Muslera, who already belonged to the U- 17 team in Uruguay in 2003, graduated up to his most recent application on March 5, 2014 56 caps for the national team of Uruguay. With the Football World Cup 2010 in South Africa, he finished with Uruguay as a goalkeeper his team to fourth place. As the only team besides Portugal, the team survived the group stage without conceding a goal. In addition Muslera kept in a penalty shoot-out against Ghana in the quarter-finals two penalties. During the tournament, he set a new record for Uruguayan goalkeeper during a World Cup tournament: he stopped 337 minutes in a row without conceding a goal. The old, established by Ladislao Mazurkiewicz record of 270 minutes without conceding came from the World Cup tournament in 1970.
