Fernando Pereira

Fernando Pereira ( born May 10, 1950 in Chaves, Portugal, † 10 July 1985 in Auckland, New Zealand ) was a freelance Dutch photographer Portuguese origin and Greenpeace activist.

He died in the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior. After the first explosion, he had gone with other activists under the deck, after the second explosion, he went missing and was found dead. The attack on the Greenpeace ship was carried out by the French foreign intelligence service in Auckland harbor.

Fernando Pereira had two children.

2005, on the twentieth anniversary of the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior became public that the French President François Mitterrand himself had authorized the action. In a statement, Admiral Pierre Lacoste, the former intelligence chief, that Pereira's death would weigh heavily on his conscience.
