Fernão do Pó

Called Fernão do Pó also Fernão Pó, Fernando Pó or Fernando Poo, ( 15th century ) was a Portuguese explorer and explored the African west coast.

According to tradition, he discovered in 1472 the island of Bioko in the Gulf of Guinea. By 1973, it bore the name of its discoverer Fernando Poo. In 1973 she was renamed Macías Nguema Byogo, 1979, she was given its present name.
