Ferranti

Ferranti Limited was founded in 1885 by Sebastian Ziani de Ferranti British companies in the electrical industry.

The company presented at several locations in England (London, Manchester ) and Scotland (Aberdeen, Glasgow ) a wide range of electrical equipment manufactures ( ranging from electric stove to computers and radars ). Also, as a manufacturer of integrated circuits Ferranti occurred. Over the years, Ferranti established branches in many European countries (eg France, Germany, Italy, Belgium) and in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong. To hold after the failed attempt on the American market, the company had such a large debt that it went bankrupt in 1994. The company produced from 1951 to Ferranti Mark I computer, and later in 1962 the Atlas computer, both in collaboration with the University of Manchester. In 1954 they acquired Packard Electric.

The company was known as electronic engineers mainly by the integrated circuit Ferranti ZN428, a simple, microprocessor compatible digital to analog converter.

Lasers and Photonics

1963 produced the division of certain components, the first European commercially available gas lasers. These activities went 1970 the company Ferranti Photonics Ltd.. forth.
