Ferrer Bassa

Ferrer Bassa (* 1285-1290 in Tortosa, † 1348 in Barcelona) was a Catalan painter of the Gothic.

The illuminator was in the service of the Aragonese royal family since 1316. So he got, among others, commissioned to paint two chapels and two crosses in the church in Sitges.

Client Bassas were also high-ranking nobles or priests, so that his works are to be found mainly in churches and castles.

A well-known artist's work is the cycle of frescoes in the Capella de Sant Miquel ( Chapel of St. Michael ') of the Monastery of Pedralbes. Under these frescoes Three women is the most famous at the grave. It originated in the years 1345/1346.

Bassa is considered a pioneer of the art of the Italian Trecento in Spain. His style had elements of both the Sienese and the Florentine style.
