Ferz (chess)

Fers (also Fersan or Alferza; pers ferzin = " vizier ", " Adviser") is the name for an in Shatranj, an early form of chess, chess piece used, which was later replaced by the current lady. He could pull diagonally only one field in each train. The term Fers was used mainly in English, French and Latin manuscripts, with Latin books described the Fers often unexplained circumstances in the text as regina and diagrams as fers.

In the Russian language the name is Ферзь ( transcribed: Fers ) even today still in use for the lady.
