Festa della Repubblica

Festa della Repubblica, Feast of the Republic, is the National Day of Italy on June 2. Similar to the national color of Savoy Blue, the squadron Frecce Tricolori or the Stella d' Italia the National is one of the unofficial symbols of the state of the Italian Republic.

The day was established in memory of the referendum of June 2, 1946 as a holiday. At that time, a majority of Italians ( 12,717,923 to 10,719,284 votes) for the introduction of the republic and against the retention of the monarchy as a form of government. The Royal House of Savoy was sent then into exile.

Since 1948, a military parade is held in honor of the Republic to the Imperial Forums in Rome. The Frecce Tricolori flying over it the forums. In addition to the parade in the presence of the holders of the highest offices of state, the protocol provides for the ceremony of laying a laurel wreath on the altar of the fatherland in Rome in honor of the Unknown Soldier.

The celebrations go in the afternoon continues with the opening to the public the gardens of the Quirinale Palace, the official residence of the President of the Italian Republic, with performances of music groups of the Navy, the Air Force, the Army, the Guardia di Finanza, Carabinieri and the Polizia di Stato.
