Festgesang an die Künstler

The solid singing at the Artists by Schiller's poem, op 68 (MWV D 6 ) is a secular choral work by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy for male choir and brass band. As a text template was the poem The Artist by Friedrich Schiller.

Mendelssohn wrote the piece in 1846 for the opening of the first German -Flemish Song Festival in Cologne. The band consists of two trumpets in Eb, 2 trumpets in Bb, 2 horns in Eb, 2 horns in B, 4 trombones, 1 tuba and 1 Ophicleide and accompanied a four -part male choir as well as a four-part solo male quartet. A performance of standing in B flat major composition takes about seven minutes.
