Festival of Flanders

The Festival van Vlaanderen is held annually in various locations Music Festival in Flanders and in the Brussels area.

The festival has its origins in Tongeren, where Briers January 1958 organized the Basilica concerts. Initially the focus was on the church music, classical instrumental music later came to be and there were more venues to include historic sites such as abbeys and castles, in neighboring towns, as in the example to Maastricht 20 Km away. In 1972, the concerts were bundled together with other events in the cities of the Festival van Vlaanderen.

At the time, the Festival van Vlaanderen is made up of eight individual regional festivals.

  • Antwerp: Amuz ( Augustine Muziek Center ) concert series in a converted into a cultural center church from the 17th century
  • Bruges: MA Festival, Festival on the outskirts of the international competition for early music in various venues in and around Bruges.
  • Brussels: Klara Festival, Festival of the radio station " Clare ", mixed with a program of early music and classical
  • Ghent: mixed program of early music and classical
  • Kortrijk:
  • Limburg: With venues in Hasselt, Tongeren, Sint- Truiden and environment
  • Mechelen: mixed program of early music and classical
  • Vlaams Brabant

A parallel organization, the Festival de Wallonie, which similarly structured consists of seven individual festivals and takes place in the French speaking part of Belgium.
