Fetoscopy

The fetoscopy is an endoscopic procedure for the investigation of the unborn child. The instrument for this purpose is called fetoscope.

The investigation is performed rarely and only in specialized clinics. It allows the investigation such as severe skin disorders in children or the obliteration of blood vessels in the fetofetalen transfusion syndrome.

Most important complication is preterm birth or miscarriage with up to 5 %. It will therefore be replaced where possible by almost complication-free ultrasound examinations. A new application has been developed by the advances in prenatal surgery ( surgery in the womb ).
