Feuersteinklippe

The flint cliff is a cliff in the Harz National Park and a landmark of the place Schierke.

The flint cliff, unlike the name suggests, an existing granite Härtling. It has a typical for the granite orthogonal fracture system and the characteristic Wollsackverwitterung. The striking rock formation is located at an altitude of 690 above sea level. Surrounded slightly north of the station Schierke NHN forest.

The name of flint cliff is similar to the name of the southeastern Schierker flint meadows, which are also located in the Harz National Park. Often the name origin "fire" from there possibly sparked ritual fires or beacons is derived, but this is likely just a legend. Big Walther writes in his "History of the City and County of Wernigerode in their forest, hall and street names " ( Wernigerode 1929) for names Origin, that the granite was there very hard and give with the steel sparks.
