Fiat Lux (Band)

Fiat Lux was a New Wave band and consisted of David P. Crickmore, Steve Wright and Ian Nelson. The band came from England and existed between 1982 and 1985.

The biggest chart success in England you had reached in 1984 with ' Secrets ', the number 65, as well as 'Blue Emotion', which came to number 59. After six singles the band parted ways, with 1985 ' Solitary Lovers' was the last single. Most people are familiar with the beautiful ballad ' Secrets ', but without knowing the artist. Even if the EP ' Hired History' with the beautiful song ' Secrets ', ' Blue Emotion' or ' Photography ' hear you wonder why Fiat Lux have not really done.

It all began at Bretton Hall College in Wakefield end of the 1970s, where Steve Wright and David P. Crickmore went to school. They came together as Steve for college band came when David was already. The band was called The Juveniles (2 published their tracks on the compilation album ' Household Shocks ', which appeared around 1980 ).

After the college years, Steve went to the Yorkshire Actors Company. One of their productions was 'The Cabinet Of Dr. Calagari '. One of the Company, Andrew Winters, was a Bill Nelson fan and made it that Bill wrote music for the show. This resulted in a friendship between Steve and Bill.

Steve mentioned that he had some songs, and Bill suggested this on a tape recorder to sing. At most, you could these songs so then in Bill's home studio ' The Echo Observatory ' record. Instead, Steve David asked for help. And so you booked then the ' Ric Rac Studios ' in Leeds to a single ( Feels Like Winter Again / This Illness ) include Cocteau Label for Steve's.

At the same time Steve and David started trying to play this material live, as a ' He's Dead Herman '. They committed some local musicians to Steve's vocals and David's Casio keyboard and guitar to accompany. One of these musicians was Ian Nelson, you did not meet via his brother Bill, but by Ada Wilson, another local musician. This played with Ian in his band ' Keeping Dark' together. Bill Nelson played the end of the 70s in the band 'Red Noise ', where his brother Ian also times also played on live gigs at the keyboard or saxophone.

Steve and David then took the song ' Feels Like Winter Again' and 'This illness ' as a duo, with Bill as the third musician and producer. On this occasion, Bill asked as now actually named the band. The answer was ' He's Dead Herman '. After some laughter Bill thought it was about time to change the name. Steve had a little red book case, in which all the names were registered, which you had thought up times. He gave this Bill and this pecked ' Fiat Lux ' from this list.

Then came the first single release in 1982, this was played on the radio and they even had the NME single of the week. This led to the end of 1982 even to the opening act of ' Blancmange ' on their tour to be. During this period, Ian was admitted as a full member of the band. 1983 They accompanied also Howard Jones and Level 42 on their tour.

Inexplicably, there is of Fiat Lux any material on CD, only on single, Maxi single and mini album. In addition one can see one or the other video on YouTube.

Ian Nelson died on April 23, 2006, his 50th birthday.
