FIBA Africa Championship 1980
The basketball Africa Championship 1980, the tenth basketball Africa Championship, took place between the 22 and 30 March 1980 at Rabat, Morocco, which hosted the championship for the third time. Winner was the national team of Senegal that could win the title for the fourth time, for the second time in a row. As with the previous host 1978 Ivory Coast in the final was a close second. For the first time took a team from Angola in the tournament.

In the Preliminary Round ( Group A and B) was played to five (group A ) or six (group B) teams into two groups. Each team played against each other exactly once, so that each team exactly four (Group A) or five years (Group B ) Games ( 25 games in total were completed ) completed. Pro victory, there were two points for a defeat at least one point. The two highest point totals moved into the semi-finals. In case of equality, the direct comparison decided. Since B Mauritania to Somalia, Somalia won in group against the People's Republic of the Congo and the People's Republic of the Congo v. Mauritania, the goal average decided from these three meetings, so that gave the below positions. In the semifinals played the top-ranked teams against the runners-up of the respective other group. The third-placed teams playing for fifth place, the fourth-placed for seventh and the fifth-placed team last played and ninth from. Nigeria was the last of the group B automatically last of the tournament.
