FIBA Africa Championship 1985

The basketball Africa Cup of 1985, the thirteenth basketball Africa Championship, took place between the 20 th and December 28, 1985 held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, which hosted the championship for the first time. Winner was the national team of Ivory Coast that could win the title for the second time. In the final, Angola could be beaten. For the first time took a team from Kenya in the tournament.

In the Preliminary Round ( Group A and B) was played on six teams into two groups. Each team played against each other exactly once, so that each team exactly five games ( a total of 30 games have been completed ) completed. Pro victory, there were two points for a defeat at least one point. The two highest point totals moved into the semi-finals. In case of equality of the Direct Comparison decided. Since the first three teams were level on points in Group A and won against Angola Angola against the Central African Republic, Central African Republic against the Ivory Coast and the Ivory Coast, the relative goal average decided from these three games. Since Angola with 3 and the Ivory Coast had with -1 the better goal average than the Central African Republic ( -2), they moved, Angola as a group first and the Ivory Coast a second group into the semi-finals. There Angola played against Egypt and Ivory Coast against Senegal at the finals. The third-placed teams playing for fifth place, the fourth-placed at number seven, the fifth-placed played in the ninth and the eleventh group last played out.
