FIBA Africa Championship 1999

The basketball Africa Championship 1999 (in short: Afrobasket 1999) is the 20th edition of this tournament and took place from 29 July to 6 August 1999 in Angolan cities of Luanda and Cabinda instead. The winner of the tournament qualified for the basketball tournament at the Olympic Games 2000.

Hosts Angola was able to retrieve his lost title in 1997 and won for the fifth time in the last six sweeps of the competition. We took advantage of the home court advantage and won the tournament at Kanter wins in the group stage unbeaten. The only silver medalist Nigeria were the Angolans keep under ten points difference twice and Malians fourth-placed to " Most Valuable Player " Lamine Diawara. Egypt won the bronze medal at only one tournament loss to Nigeria in the semifinals. Defending champion Senegal came only to seventh place.

Mode

At the tournament in a preliminary round was held two groups of six teams as a round-robin tournament. While the top two teams in each group, which decided among themselves in victory tie, the direct comparison, is qualified for the semifinals in the knockout system, another placement game played the other teams against each equal -placed team in the other group. The semi-finalists played according to their group placement from crossing the finalists and participants in the World Cup finals. The semifinal losers were still playing in the small final for the bronze medal, while the winners of the semi-finals competed for the gold medal and the tournament victory in the final.
