FIBA Africa Championship 2003

The basketball Africa Championship 2003 (in short: Afrobasket 2003) is the 22nd edition of this tournament and was held from August 7 to 19, 2003 in the Egyptian port city of Alexandria. In the fifth staging of an African finals in Egypt, the competition was held in Alexandria for the third time. The winner of the tournament qualified directly for the basketball competition of the Olympic Games 2004. Others starting positions were not intended for African teams.

Defending champions Angola won without defeat superior to his third consecutive title and seventh overall in the last eight sweeps. They won all games with at least 13 points difference except in the game over Tunisia, in the end sufficed eight points difference to victory. Nigeria won after the defeat against Algeria all its games, including against hosts Egypt, until the final defeat against the defending champion. Egypt reached after the semi-final defeat against Angola nor the bronze medal.
