FIBA Africa Championship 2007

The basketball Africa Cup 2007 (in short: Afrobasket 2007) is the 24th edition of this tournament and was held from August 15 to 25, 2007 in Angola instead. After the opening match between Rwanda and hosts and defending champions Angola in the capital Luanda the preliminaries took place in Benguela, Lubango, Huambo and Cabinda. The placement rounds for the places 9 to 16 then took place in Benguela and the final rounds for the places 1-8 in Luanda. The winner of the tournament qualified directly for the basketball tournament at the Olympic Games in 2008, while the other two medalists a starting place at the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament got to qualify there for the Olympic basketball tournament.

Angola hosts won without defeat superior to his fifth consecutive title. Besides finalist Cameroon surprising winners of the Cape Verde Islands a medal. However, these two teams lost their two group matches at the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament in Athens a year later and did not achieve a starting place for the tournament at the Olympic Games 2008.

Mode

At the tournament a preliminary round in four groups was held to four teams as a round-robin tournament. While the two worst teams in each group then places nine to 16 playing off in a placement round, reached the two best placed teams in each group for the final round, each of which was played in the knockout system. The losers of the games of the quarterfinals played in a Placement Round from positions five to eight, while the losers of the games of the semifinal played not only for the bronze medal in this tournament, but also to the remaining starting position for the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament in the " small final ". The winner of the finals not only won the gold medal, but also a direct launch site for the Olympic basketball tournament, while the loser still had the chance to qualify via the pre-Olympic tournament.
