Fierljeppen

As panel Stock Jumping ( also Pullstockspringen, Paddstockspringen, pulse jumping Stock, the Netherlands Fierljeppen ( West Frisian ) or Polsstokverspringen ) is called the rod long jump over watercourses. It has its origins in a time when it did not exist, the currently available infrastructure.

Widespread it is in North West Germany and the Netherlands, particularly in the Frisian areas. As about Ostfriesland by many watercourses, particularly the so-called " lows " running through it, which are up to eight feet wide, had to pedestrians have a way to cross this dry feet.

This was done by means of three to five meters long poles with a round plate at the end, the " panel sticks ". They were similar to those used in the pole vault, but for coping with width and not height differences. The plate at the end of the stick prevented from sinking into the muddy river bottom.

Today, the panel Stock jumping is practiced almost exclusively in fun competitions or for tourists. In the Netherlands annually held a National Fierljep manifestation (NMF ) as well as six league competitions and club championships.
