Figari

Figari is a commune with 1336 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Arrondissement in the department of Sartène Corse-du- Sud in the Corsica region. Figari is the capital of the eponymous canton of Figari.

The settlement has to the west of the township also has an airport ( IATA code: FSC).

Viniculture

The wine-growing area around Figari is part of the regional appellation Vin de Corse. Since April 2, 1976 ( the decree was revised for the last time on 25 March 1991 ) the area has the status of an Appellation d' Origine ( AOC short ). The wine region of Figari is a sub-zone in which the appellate provisions were regulated somewhat stricter. The area includes the municipalities of Figari, Monacia - d'Aullène and Pianottoli -Caldarello.

The area is one of the most southerly wine regions of France dar. Still further south lies the wine region of Porto -Vecchio, since this includes the southern tip of Corsica with the vineyards of Bonifacio. The wine regions to Figari have been reduced since the early 1970s from about 750 ha to about 100 ha. They are almost exclusively handled by a wine cooperative. The wines produced here are similar in all Corsica, mainly red wines (60 percent), rosé wines (30 percent) and only 10 percent of whites.

Mainly in the area of Figari autochthonous varieties of white wine Carcajolo Blanc and the red wine Carcajolo Noir. Among the best known wines from the region Figari heard of L' omu di Cagna the wine cooperative.
