Fight Hunger

Walk the World ( Complete Title: Fight Hunger: Walk the World ) is an annual campaign under the auspices of the United Nations ( WFP), World Food Programme, is called with the world to combat world hunger.

Was initiated this action by employees of the logistics company TNT during a march along the Great Wall donations for WFP collected in 2003. A year later, TNT hosted this fundraiser as a global event in which in some 70 countries over 40,000 people at 10 clock local time placed a five-kilometer long march.

Since 2005, the event under the auspices of the WFP. In addition to the collection of donations for WFP school feeding programs the action should also remember the first Millennium Development Goal, after which the proportion of people suffering from hunger should be halved by 2015.

On 1 June 2008, the sixth march has already taken place. Overall, this year more than 250,000 people in over 70 countries participated in a total of 280 events. It was taken over a million dollars - enough to supply 20,000 starving school children for a year with food. In Germany every year numerous " Walks" take place, including in Cologne and Berlin.

The Walk the World 2010 will be held on Sunday, June 6.
