Figure-ground diagram

The ground plan is an instrument of urban planning for the representation of buildings in a selected map section. All the other chart elements such as roads, vegetation or waterways are hidden. This modification may (shown in black ) a clear distinction between developed and undeveloped area can be distinguished ( shown in white ). With the help of this plan, the city can investigate morphology and their development.
