FIH Hockey World League

The FIH Hockey World League (FIH Hockey World League) is a 2012 newly created competition for hockey teams, ladies and gentlemen, is organized by the World Hockey Association FIH. It is used in the future as a qualification for the Olympic Games and for the hockey world championships on the field. The first edition won both the men's and the women's Netherlands.

Format

The competition covers a cycle of two years and consists of four rounds. In rounds many tournaments are played at different places in different ways.

  • Round 1 will be played in local tournaments. To keep the travel costs for smaller countries small, the number of tournaments, the participants and the qualifiers can vary for the next round.
  • Round 2 consists of four tournaments, each with six participants who play in a group. The United Nations in the squares 9-16 lying in the world rankings are directly qualified for this round.
  • Round 3 - Semi-finals: The products listed in the world rankings in the squares 1 to 8 nations rise only here in the competition. It will be played two tournaments, each with eight participants. First played in two groups, then follow placement games.

After completion of Round 3 of the five continental championships (Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania) should be played. For the Olympic Games or the World Championships then the hosts the respective continental champions and the six (possibly seven) qualifies best teams in the Round 3.

  • Round 4 - Final: This is where the top eight nations tournament. The mode is the same as in round 3

Specific point rule

In the World League a particular point rule for the group matches applies: in a draw there is a penalty shootout. The winner receives two points, one of the losers. A win in the game, there are as yet three points.

World League 2012 - 2014

Gentlemen

The winner was the Dutch team with a 7-2 final victory on January 18, 2014 in Delhi against New Zealand. The German team took seventh place.

Round 3: Although Russia came in second place in a tournament round 2, but could not qualify for the next round, because it was the weakest result in the world ranking of all Second. Malaysia was given a starting place as host.

Round 4: New Zealand qualified for Round 4 because it was in a better position in the world rankings as Korea, the fourth of the other round -3 tournament.

Ladies

The winner was the Dutch team with a 5-1 victory on December 8, 2013 in Tucumán against Australia. The German team took seventh place.

Round 4: New Zealand qualified for Round 4, because it is better positioned in the world rankings with 3rd place than any of the other possible Fourth Round -3 tournament. All participants in the other tournament except Argentina, which are hosted, behind New Zealand.
