File hosting service

File hosting is a service that allows customers to store files over the Internet to a central data store file hosting provider. This permits access to the files from any location where Internet is available. Moreover, the data are protected by a centralized data backup in addition to loss. If the file hosting used exclusively for backup, then this is called Online Backup.

Provider of free file hosting services that enable a publication of the files - for example, photo communities and video sharing sites - are referred to as Sharehoster.
