Filettino

Filettino is a municipality in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region Latium, 559 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 88 km east of Rome and 53 km north of Frosinone.

Geography

Filet Tino overlooks the valley of the Aniene in the Regional Park of Simbruini, a promontory of Abruzzo. It is the highest village of Latium. Filettino is a member of the Comunità Montana Monti Ernici.

History

Filettino was probably after the collapse of the Roman Empire, when the population of the plains in the mountains sought refuge on better -defended hills. The first written mention dates but only from the year 1059. 1294 Filettino came to the noble Caetani family where it remained until 1602. After the execution of Prospero Caetani the place fell directly to the Apostolic Chamber, where he remained until the unification of Italy in 1870.

From 1938 to 1945, the town was renamed after the born here General Rodolfo Graziani in Filettino Graziani.

In protest against the austerity program of the Italian Government, which provided for the dissolution of municipalities under 1,000 inhabitants, the mayor of Filettino the establishment of an independent principality Filettino announced in August 2011.
