Filip Dewinter

Philip " Filip " Dewinter Michel Frans ( born September 11, 1962 in Bruges ) is a Belgian politician. He is the 2006 Chairman of the Group of Vlaams Belang (VB) and a deputy in the Flemish Parliament.

Since his school days in Bruges Dewinter is politically active. He founded in 1978 the age of sixteen, the Vlaamse Scholieren Actie Groep, which became the Nationalist Jong student Enver Bond later. In 1982 he went to study there political and social science at the University of Antwerp to Antwerp. He became a member of the Nationalist Student Association ( NSA ). In 1983, he joined the former Vlaams Blok. Two years later, he joined the University and studied journalism at the Graduate School of Management Erasmus.

He quickly made a career in the Vlaams Blok and 1992, group president. He has also held the Vlaams Belang this position. Since 1995 he has been a municipal councilor in Antwerp and Flemish MPs.

Dewinter is married and father of three daughters.
