Filip Dewulf

Filip Dewulf ( born March 15, 1972 in Mol ) is a former Belgian tennis player.

Life

Dewulf occurred in 1989 in the junior tournaments in the French Open and Wimbledon, where he failed each in the first round. In doubles, he reached with Tom Vanhoudt the second round. The following year, he joined again at the junior competition at Wimbledon, this time he was defeated in both the single and double in the first round. In 1990 he became a professional tennis player and winner of two individual titles and one doubles title on the ATP World Tour in the course of his career. He also won on the ATP Challenger Tour a single and six doubles titles. The highest quotation in the tennis world ranking he reached in 1997 with position 39 in the singles and 1993 position 125 in doubles.

His best individual result at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the semi-finals of the French Open in 1997. Initially he played through three qualifying rounds, where he defeated, among others, Stefano Pescosolido. This was followed by victories over Cristiano Caratti, Fernando Meligeni, Albert Portas, Àlex Corretja and Magnus Norman. In the semifinals, he finally succumbed to the eventual champion Gustavo Kuerten. In the doubles competition, he never came at a Grand Slam tournament at.

Dewulf played between 1991 and 2001, including 28 singles and 14 doubles matches for the Belgian Davis Cup team. His greatest success with the team he had in 1999, when he stood with Belgium in the semifinals of the World Group. France eventually won 4-1, lost its single Dewulf doing in five sets against Cédric Pioline.
