Filip Meirhaeghe
Filip Meirhaeghe ( born March 5, 1971 in Ghent) is a Belgian mountain bikers and road cyclists.
Filip Meirhaeghe in 1996 for the first time Belgian champion in cross country. This title win he could repeat in 1998, 2000 and 2001. A year later, he was on top of the mountain bike staging of Paris -Roubaix. Also this triumph he could repeat in 2002. In the Mountain Bike World Championships 1998 he won his first of two bronze medals, followed by the second in 1999. During the Olympic Games in Sydney he won the silver medal behind Miguel Martinez. In the next World Championships in 2002 and 2003 was Meirhaeghe vice world champion in Kaprun and finally world champion in Lugano.
Shortly before the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he was tested positive for EPO and was use to. During his 15 - month ban, he wrote the book Positief about his previous career.
Since 2006 Meirhaeghe denied road race for the Belgian Professional Continental team Landbouwkrediet - Colnago and could the GP Rudy Dhaenens win. On the mountain he was re- Belgian cross-country champion. After the 2009 season, he finished his career.
