Filippo Sassetti
Filippo Sassetti (* 1540 in Florence, † 1588 in Goa, India) was a Florentine merchant.
Life
On his trading journeys Sassetti came to Constantinople Opel and Tehran to India. To strengthen its position as a dealer, he soon began to be interested in Sanskrit. Sassetti was thus one of the first Europeans, dedicated to this language ( written and spoken) employed.
With 48 years Sassetti died in Goa and found his final resting place.
